Why Bridges?

If you have a missing space or gap, bridge is a simple solution to fix a gap. However before you contemplate this option please also look at our Dental Implant solution.

What are bridges made of?

The outer coat of a bridge is made of porcelain for aesthetic benefits, with an inner metal material to provide strength and support. A bridge utilises the extensive skill set of the dentist and technician, creating a tailor made bridge for each individual patient.

A healthy single tooth or both teeth on either side of the missing gap will be shaped to create the space needed for this bridge. Once the bridge is made, this will secured using a dental bonding agent.  This is done in two separate appointments, two weeks apart, to allow time for the bridge to be made in the laboratory.

A good fitting bridge will last for many years providing that the patient looks after it well.

How do I look after my bridge?

Like normal teeth, bridges need to be cleaned every day to prevent problems such as bad breath and gum disease. You also have to clean under the bridge each day with small interdental brushes to prevent any stagnation of food or plaque.

Your dentist or hygienist will show you how to use interdental brushes or special floss to get at these areas.
